Friends, family, and the surrounding community were invited to a screening of Russ Parr’s soon to be released film The Under Shepherd. This film attempts to place attention on the many controversial issues that corrupt Black churches. Guests enjoyed a full screening of the film followed by a Q & A with the celebrity cast which included Clifton Powell, an Ellington Alum. Proceeds from the film screening went to Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

This video was shot on a Flip, but AWP Studio has an even better version that you can view on their Vimeo Channel. http://vimeo.com/39370019

The Black Googler Network presents the creators and cast members from The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl in a conversation with Camille Hearst.

I love The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl! It gets better every episode! I love that Google is giving them some exposure too. I haven’t watched the interview yet, but I hope to find the time to this weekend. Keep up the good work Issa Rae! Yay Black Nerds!

I don’t even remember how I stumbled onto 2Pause, but it’s a really cool website with video galleries of some really awesome work. Categories range from Interactive and Electric Cinema, to Lo/No Budget and Stop Motion videos. I found this site to be very inspirational. I have been looking for clever ideas to approach new video work, as well as give my students some forward thinking examples of video art they can refer to.
I took a screen shot of one of the videos in the “Lo/No Budget” category called Hibi No Neiro which uses web cameras and some well thought out choreography. Great stuff!

Wow! I think I just found a solution for Duke Ellington students and community that will help us collect content for our Literary Media & Communications website, as well as create community engagement through crowdsourcing. Ky’Lend Adams a 2nd year sophomore at Ellington in my Video & Web Media class came to me with the desire to relaunch and manage our department YouTube channel LMC TV. He wanted a way to feature all of the Arts Departments at Ellington that would drive awareness and interest to potential funders and the general community.

I thought about using DropBox or Drop.io to crowdsource video but this is a much better alternative because it accesses YouTube and its vast community of users. YouTube Direct will allow video produced by or featuring Duke Ellington students already on YouTube to be collected and shared in a more purposeful way that will benefit the school.

Now if I could just get YouTube unblocked in my classroom…

I don’t know how this video got past me. Somehow it looks just how I imagined. All of the lights, literally. I love their madness… Hype Williams and Kanye West are a banging dynamic duo! I look forward to seeing even more of Hype’s visual interpretations of Kanye’s music. No one is on their level, truly this is another plane.

I came across this video on Vimeo and I was really inspired to do some experimenting with the screen wall and paint in the studio. This video is green screen crazy. Check it out.
